Note that if you mare arrives without having completed the Conditions (such as wearing shoes, not accompanied by a certificate of negative smear test, etc.) the stud can do this for you at cost. In the last twelve months (since arriving at The Morrich Stud) Josethdene has sired six live foals to six mares, five of these were fillies and one was a colt!

Josethdene is a 10 year old stallion from the famous Ballinton Stud, bred by Scott McGregor. Scott emigrated with most of his ponies to Australia to be near his daughter. Salinadene, his mother, was one of Scott's favourite mares but considered too old to travel so she was left in the UK. An obituary for Salinadene can be found at http://www.debbiespears.co.uk/links.htm (scroll down). Josethdene has sired at least nine foals so he is a dad already.
Josethdene was shown at the Caledonia Riding Club Summer Show at Muir of Ord on the 11th July 2009, both ridden (by Ms Claire Kinvig) and in hand (by her 17 year old daughter Chereen). He was taken away from his herd of five mares the day before the show and returned to then immediately after the show but behaved impeccably during the show, demonstrating the superb temperament of this line of Highland ponies.

Kerrera Duke
Kerrera Duke: I am grateful to Sheila McGregor for permission to use this picture. Sheila tells me, "....One of my mares went to him (Josethdene) a few years ago now and had a colt foal (Kerrara Duke) who went on to win his class at the breed show and I sold him last year as a 3 year old colt. He was such a beautiful pony with such a great character. The mare, his dam, is by Fyfedene...." As a matter of fact, I tried to buy Duke but was pipped at the post and bought Joe, his father, instead!
Walkerdene
Walkerdene: Steel grey Highland gelding, foaled 2004, out of Maggiedene, owned by Joanne Bennett. Joanne writes,
"Josethdene has certainly passed on his great temperament to Walkerdene.
Walker is one of the kindest natured ponies I have ever come across. We
have concentrated on in hand showing this year but next year we are
doing a ridden season so Walker will be back in the show ring. My 10
year old son has moved from riding his Welsh Mountain Pony to Walker
this year and Walker takes care of him. He is certainly no plod though,
he steps up a gear for me and is very forward going. He's a good little
jumper too".

If I was to write a specification for a Highland stallion, Josethdene would be it! He has the perfect temperament, conformation, and manners. He is not susceptible to Sweet Itch nor is he prone to Laminitis. Joe is a traditional type of Highland pony without any tendency towards obesity, a problem commonly found in native ponies.
Below left, Joe meets Craig. Below right: The boys (Fergus, Joe, and Finn) share the feed bowl. Since this picture was taken, the youngsters have firmly but patiently been put in their place! At feeding time, everyone has their own bowl and has the manners to stick to it!

Josethdene (left), in his working clothes, has excellent confirmation without being excessively heavy. The pictures were taken after he had been running with mares all winter.

Stallions Used - past and present
Sire of Mary-Mac of Tormore and Kinkell Breagha, two of my foundation brood mares. This famous stallion is now dead but I used two of his sons (Lord Barney and Just William - see below) on two mares (Meeceside Gracie and Glentrowan Belina) in 2007. Glentrowan Belina has been served by him again in 2008 because her previous foal turned out so well. To see Cock o' the North's pedigree, click here.
Sporrandene of
Kildavie "Mac": Sire of Gracie's foal, above. Two mares, Mary Mac of Tormore and Kinkell Breagha, were served by Sporrandene of Kildavie "Mac" in June 2007. Unfortunately, both mares were blood tested empty. They were returned for service in 2008 but again returned empty. They have both had a late service from Josethdene since arriving back home at the Morrich Stud.
Lord Barney of Tormore (a son of Cock o' the North) served Glentrowan Belina in June 2007. She has gone back to him this year, 2008, because he produced such a nice colt (Morrich Finn) from the last service! To see his pedigree, click here.
